Disclaimer
What BTMP content is and is not: general educational information, not professional advice, and not a guarantee of employment, salary or investment.
1. Scope of this disclaimer
This Disclaimer applies to btmpprogram.com, to every article published under Insights, to curriculum materials, to guidance given in mentoring sessions and clinics, and to any communication from BTMP unless a separate signed agreement says otherwise.
It should be read together with our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the Services generally.
2. General information only
Content published by BTMP is intended for general educational purposes. It is not tailored to your circumstances and cannot account for facts we do not know.
- We take reasonable care to be accurate at the time of publication, but technology, salaries, hiring practices, regulations and tooling all change.
- Publication dates appear on every article. Older material may describe practices that have since changed.
- Figures, ranges and timelines are indicative. Where we cite research we describe its limitations rather than presenting it as settled.
- Examples, scenarios, company names used illustratively and sample figures are for teaching purposes and do not describe any specific real organisation unless stated.
3. No professional advice
BTMP is an educational organisation. Nothing we publish or say constitutes professional advice in any regulated field.
| Topic | What we provide | Who to consult |
|---|---|---|
| Company formation, contracts, IP | General orientation and clinic introductions | A qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction |
| Fundraising, cap tables, valuation | General frameworks and review | A qualified corporate adviser |
| Tax on stipends, equity or income | A note that tax may apply | A qualified tax professional |
| Immigration and right to work | No guidance at all | A licensed immigration adviser |
| Employment terms and disputes | Negotiation practice and general context | An employment lawyer or union |
| Health, stress and burnout | Signposting and general wellbeing information | A medical professional |
Clinics run with partner firms are introductions to those firms. Any professional relationship you form is between you and them, on their terms, and BTMP is not a party to it and receives no fee from it.
4. No guarantee of outcomes
BTMP makes no representation or warranty that participation will lead to any particular result.
- Employment. Pipelines provides preparation, rehearsal and warm introductions. Hiring decisions belong to employers and depend on factors beyond our control, including market conditions and each employer's own process.
- Salary. Any compensation figures we publish are contextual benchmarks drawn from public sources, not predictions about what you will earn.
- Investment. Shipyards provides guidance, review and introductions. Investors make their own decisions, and most startups do not raise.
- Skill level. Completion records that you met our published criteria at a point in time. It does not certify fitness for any specific role.
- Placement statistics. Figures we publish are historical, describe cohorts as a whole, and are not a forecast of an individual's result.
Outcomes depend substantially on your own effort, prior experience, available time and circumstances that neither of us controls.
5. Third-party content and links
This site links to external organisations, tools, research and job opportunities.
- A link is not an endorsement of the linked organisation, its products, its employment practices or its accuracy.
- We do not control third-party content and it may change or disappear without notice.
- Photographic images on this site are licensed stock photography served from a third-party network. People shown in photographs are models and are not participants, mentors or staff unless a caption says so.
- Quotations attributed to BTMP staff in our articles are illustrative of the programme's position; testimonials shown on the site are composites drawn from participant feedback and are labelled where they appear.
- Where we cite third-party research we link to the source so you can judge it yourself.
6. Forward-looking statements
Some content describes intentions, plans and expectations — cohort dates, curriculum changes, target fix dates for accessibility issues, and programme expansion. These are statements of current intention, not commitments. They involve assumptions about funding, staffing and demand, and actual outcomes may differ.
We update published plans when they change, but we do not undertake to revise every forward-looking statement as circumstances develop.
7. Technical content, code and security material
Our articles and curriculum contain technical guidance, code samples and security material. Additional cautions apply.
- Code samples are illustrative. They are written for clarity, not for production. They may omit error handling, input validation, authentication and performance considerations. Review, test and adapt before using anything in a real system.
- Security techniques are for defensive and authorised use only. Testing systems you do not own or have written permission to test is unlawful in most jurisdictions. We describe techniques so that defenders can detect them.
- You are responsible for your own environment. Running examples against live infrastructure, or on hardware that can cause physical harm, is at your own risk. Robotics and hardware material assumes appropriate supervision and safety measures.
- No warranty is given for any sample. Code and configuration published by BTMP is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind.
8. Views of contributors
Articles carry the name of an individual author. Views expressed are those of the author at the time of writing and do not necessarily represent the position of BTMP, its partners, its funders or its mentors.
Mentors are independent volunteers. Guidance a mentor gives you is their own professional opinion. BTMP trains mentors, sets a code of conduct and reviews pairings, but does not supervise the content of individual advice and is not responsible for it. If you believe guidance you received was harmful or inappropriate, tell us at [email protected].
9. Fair use and attribution
Where our educational content quotes or reproduces limited portions of third-party material, we do so for purposes of criticism, comment, teaching and research, with attribution. If you hold rights in material used here and believe the use exceeds what is permitted, write to [email protected] and we will respond promptly.
You are welcome to quote our articles with attribution and a link. Republishing an article in full requires written permission.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BTMP accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on information published on this site or provided through the Services, including decisions about study, career, employment, business formation, investment or the configuration of technical systems.
Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. The limitations in section 11 of the Terms of Service apply in full to this Disclaimer.
11. Changes and how to reach us
We may update this Disclaimer at any time. The version and review date at the top of this page always reflect the current text, and continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of it.
If anything here is unclear, or if you believe something we have published is inaccurate, write to [email protected]. We correct errors promptly and note material corrections at the foot of the affected article.
